Onskreen
launches mobile device service
with Airtel
India's largest Mobile
Operator offers user one click
access to full catalog of
content
Seattle, Washington February
21, 2005 – Airtel, the
leading operator in the fast
growing Indian market, will
use Onskreen technology to
serve content on the main
screen of subscriber’s
mobile phones.
Onskreen, a Seattle based
company, lets Airtel customize
the home screen of mobile
devices and give subscribers
one-click access to the content
they want. Airtel licensed
the Onskreen Fusion platform,
a service for new and existing
devices in the marketplace.
With Onskreen, operators
can create their own channel
of content on the main screen
of subscriber’s devices
and market new services as
they are released.
“Airtel already offers
users the most varied selection
of data services in the Indian
market. Our next step is to
give users a simple and compelling
way to access all types of
content on their device, right
from the main screen. Onskreen
allows us to do that,”
said Rajiv Jaitly, COO Airtel
Rajasthan.
With Onskreen, Airtel can
brand devices and give subscribers
one-click access to Airtel
services. The Fusion solution
also lets operators remotely
manage the content and experience
on the device. The Onskreen
service was simple for Airtel
to deploy because the technology
uses the operator’s
existing infrastructure and
does not require a new server.
“Onskreen takes the
complexity out of using mobile
data services, and puts channels
of content subscribers want
right on the main screen,”
said Onskreen CEO Hansmeet
Sethi. “Airtel is the
most innovative operator in
the region and recognizes
the value of having its brand
and content at subscribers’
fingertips.”
Without disrupting normal
usage of the device, Fusion
enhances the idle screen so
users can preview content
and snippets of the latest
information like news headlines,
stock quotes, and the operator
download catalog. And with
one button press, Fusion will
direct the user to the source
of the content whether it’s
a web page, local client installed
on the device, email, or even
Instant Messenger.
Airtel is the first operator
to launch the Fusion platform
which supports a wide variety
of popular devices and does
not require any proprietary
device enhancements. Fusion
is an always on experience
for users, hiding the complexity
of the mobile networks and
confusing device based menu
structures.
